Personally i use time coded, just for the record...
Time Coded:
Pros:
- Give you that "authentic" DJ look (in my opinion)
- Some say that you have more control when scratching
Cons:
- Can skip if bumped, its happened to me, its really awkward
- You have to deal with "flutter", even with the best turntable, there is still some
CD's:
Pros:
- Very accurate
- Dont need to worry about skipping, unless there is a major scratch in them
Cons:
- The only con i can think of is that, in my case, its just a weird transition from a turntable to a CDJ
hope that helps!

I use time coded vinyls purely because I enjoy mixing on proper decks so much more. I feel more like I'm playing with a gadget when I use a CD-J.

Wouldnt time coded be a much better option, for one, if there is a track you really want that is only released on Vinyl not mp3 or cd then you could still play that record if you have timecoded and therefore turntables. Whereas if you only have cdjs youre ****ed.

very true, but how hard is it to make a "good" mp3 of a vinyl record?

If you mean ripping a track that was originally on vinyl to mp3 - quite. Pops from the records and unwanted background noise or hum from bad equipment make it impossible to get a vinyl rip to the standard of an mp3 or wav. Also if you wanna rip a vinyl track to mp3 youd need a turntable anyway..... im not sure what youre getting at tbh mate or are you genuinely asking?

Yea, i was just generally asking, more of a rhetorical question.
but i know how hard it can be to get a "good" recording.

It is possible to remove all that pops and shit from the recording, soundforge does it.
I can rip a vinyl and it sound good, although i would recommend having separate needles for ripping and djing
