i was wondering what kinds of systems do people use to mix with?

to be more specific:

- Do you use Serato?
- Do you use Torq?
- Or are you old skool vinyl?

Personally i use Torq, a great all around program, and its priced about 200 less than serato!

But what about people who use programs like Serato, who ACTUALLY have to beat match and mix?

not just hit a button

i love hardcore at the moment, because there is so little good stuff being released on vinyl its just letting me catch up with all those labels that arent releasing anymore :D

if i could make a suggestion...if u have a "decent" computer, try Torq, its priced about around 300, which is considerably lower than serato. also u can still real vinyl.

Guys, there's a timecode-based mixing system that beats Serato, Torq and Traktor Scratch hands down - and it's FAR CHEAPER!!

Check out: http://www.schaack-audio.com/home.html

P.S. I know it's better cos I've tried them all extensively - I do the odd bit of work for Computer Music magazine.

Nothing beats the distinguished smell of a coffin housing 2 motors spinning pressed wax and the feeling of cursing at the top of your lungs when you miss a beat. A couple of Pioneer CDJs for adding effects doesn't hurt though.

Christ and i was gonna pay £450 for Serato. Really, much appreciated for that recommendation mate!

Hmm. Will definately look into it, doubt it's better than any of those 3 mentioned. Otherwise I'm sure it would be in the spotlight, never heard of it before, but will check it out

Myself, I use Traktor Scratch Pro. It's soooo good!

Old skool vinyl ;) don't think I'll ever use software like serato, I like having real records.
I will get some CD decks eventually for more versatility, but I just love the wax

From what i can gather its only just been released in the last few weeks or so. Look on google there's a few videos from its launch, dated 2 weeks ago. Looks pretty good from the vids.

I would have thought if thats what you were after "old skool vinyl feel" then timecoded would be best for you? Im in the same boat in that i dont particulalrly like the idea of using CDJs, so thats why id choose the closest thing to vinyl, vinyl emulation. It may not be real vinyl but it looks like real vinyl, feels like real vinyl that'll do me.

Plus ive already got too much shit in this room (if you'll have seen the pictures i posted on the setup thread you'll know lol) i dont need more bloomin CDs and CD cases littering the place.

Cant wait to get my shiny new toy

Actually I'd prefer CDJs over emulation. Probably because with emulation I'd need a computer running, and all technology I have eventually fails (I've had many cellphones and countless mp3 players, but those are meant to break so you have to give the corporations more money, right?:p) so without a computer necessary for mixing, I have less machines to worry about,
and fewer cables littering :P and without a computer all the music comes from primary sources rather than secondary

Oh and it looks fun to play around with the functions on a CDJ too, they're a bit easier to get around, in case I'm playing somewhere. First of all though, I really need a new mixer :P
