In a word no.
Improvements can always be made and I learn new things all of the time. Tracks I made a few years ago I thought where good at the time now sound utter rubbish to me so I'm not going to fall into that trap.

I say that at every track I finish. Not to come off as completely vain or anything, but I feel like every track I do is my best work at the time and really... I think that's how you should feel with every song that you complete. Like Mortis said, everything can always be improved but what should really matter is how you feel at the time. Is the song the best you can do at this time? Obviously, this will change as time goes on but there is definitely nothing wrong with thinking Song A is your "masterpiece" and then, a year later, have Song D be your "masterpiece".

Everything you do should be your best work, or what are you actually doing? As for masterpeice, i don't think you can ever view your work as a masterpeice as you can never be objective about your own work. Even if you could be, there is nothing to say anyone else would agree.

yeah I agree with all you guys say, but in every artist's career there's always a single song, or a single work that is what the person is remembered for, and its very probable that after that is almost imposible to improve or do anything better, because is... "THE masterpiece"
the point where the artist reaches perfection in his skills, combined with inspiration, the right time, the right place, the right moment in life, everything combined to make it happen
not only in music, but painting, sculpture, films, etc.

I wish I always felt like that. I like tracks I made a year and a half ago better than tracks I made this year. With that said, some of the tracks I've started this year have potential to outdo my favourites from last year..
:D

first of all I'd like to say No Left Turn summed it up pretty nicely.
As for the last statement...
maybe some of us browse the site, hoping for breaks which means we might not all be at the Brisk, Sy or Leonardo DaVinci level, for exmpl.
I think I've made a few decent things to show though but like I said, I feel I'm still yet to break through and I feel the level of achievement of which you speak of falls into the category of "those who've made it".
