Hey, I want to make some happy hardcore, but I have no idea where to start. I have a midi keyboard. Any tips for just starting out?

you only need one thing to begin: a software (assuming you already have a computer and a pair of speakers :P)
Cubase, FL studio or Reason are the most used. once you get one of those... the only limit is your imagination ;)

I use FL....here is my advice:

Download as many sample packs as you can, i have listed one below:
http://www.4shared.com/file/85209367/2a9fd49a/NSR_Sample_Pack.html

So download that, and that will give you lots of hardcore kicks, snares, hats, etc etc

Play around with the 3 xosc which comes built into fruity already....its a powerful tool and sounds great with reeverb, delay and flanger.

Look into buying Vanguard or z3ta.

Do not use FL presets.

Download Glitch (great effect)

The effects on FL like reeverb, parametric eq, delay, flanger, bass boost are very good, have a play with them.

Search for Kev willow tutorial on youtube and get some more ideas :)

You can also use overdrive/distortion to make dirty, dirty leads ;)

Other Free VSTs that I use (search on google and you should find them)

-AAA Donk Machine (not bad as a layer for bass)
- 4front piano module (nice little piano vst)
- Analog warfare 3.1
- DSK Oranze
- DSK Sixsenze
- Genesis (good for leads)
- LaborOsc VSTi (recommended on this site but i havent got to grips with it yet)

If you download them and the sample pack i told you. Use the 3x osc and maybe the TS404, you have all the components to make a decent-ish track
