I've been mixing with VDJ with my mouse for a couple weeks now, and I like virtual DJ. Instead of spening $550 on Serato, should I just spend about $150 for the control vinyls and Maya44usb sound card? I think since I'm just starting out, it might be a good idea.

Thanks,
Casey

I don't have turntables yet, I'm ordering them soon. I don't have a job, and $100 is a lot cheaper to come buy to use control vinyl than $550

Why not control digital files with something that was made for it:

Alright, I don't think anyone understands my situation. I'm going to use CONTROL vinyl. As in 2 vinyls are all I need for unlimited music.

we all do...well i think they do

you want to use "timecoded" vinyls

like you get 2 turn tables and a mixer, and you get the interface, and the timecoded vinyls, then you plug it all in and use it

your look about $400-$500 just for the 2 vinyls and interface (from what ive found)
the you need the mixer and the tables, and the speakers , headphones....ect

so for all that, ummm ~$1,500, mabe less if you get cheaper things

this is what im talking about

Some of you people have unbelievable comprehension issues.

Yes! In fact Maya 44E USB is one of the recommended cards for the excellent MixVibes DVS. You don't even need phono preamps as the software can compensate by itself. Serato might be more stylish and in-the-box, but the route you're suggesting is cheaper and will give you essentially the same usable end result.

If you're happy with what you're using and you can get it to work in that way go for it man. I'm using Serato but I don't think having a different interface would make much difference to me.

Use the extra money to get better decks/mixer or lots of new tunes. :)

Lots of people, means people that have grown with vinyl and cant make the change to new technologies, that just mean being an old fart, nothing more.

But if you want to buy 2 turntables, the 2 discs and something between them, then go for it. I was just saying that you could replace them all with one controller, that was designed to control the audio program. Not something that emulates another piece of hardware.

Whispering - Those things are all well and good for mixing at home but when it comes to playing out you then have to take all that shit with you, try and plug it in without making people wait between sets and try and find space for it in the DJ booth! If you have serato (or something like it) it's much easier to use to play live sets.

Thank you so much Torpex for actually answering my question. That's all I needed to hear. I think I'll be going with that then.
