What's a Bass Drop?

http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/tape808.html

EDIT

However, i managed to find a pack containing all the samples in the Gold Baby kit (amongs a load of others) for free on some forum or another. I can't remember where though or i'd post the link, sorry. Could look on Google? Even so 19 dolla ain't gon' break the bank.

I have a samples track that has a bass drop in it. I'll email it to you if you want it.

You want the worst quality format possible when you can just as easily have an uncompressed .wav?

Anyway you don't need a sample, they are piss easy to make. Just use a single sine or triangle oscillator and assign it's pitch to an envelope where you can control the obvious parameters.

Using a name like a 'bass drop' though is as innacurate as someone reffering to certain FX as a 'riser' (plenty of people do it and it's so silly), in that it could mean literally anything, because it's just a name someones given it and nothing else. You need to learn technical defenitions so people know what your talking about since they are universal.
I'm not telling you this to complain but it will help you greatly to have a proper understanding of that which you speak.

Geez man, in my studio - the technical definition for most things is either a 'wotsit' or a 'thingy'.

anything from hihats to splash cymbals or big orchestral drums! (I <3 Taikos!)

I guess so long as people know what you're on about, its all good no?

Having said that, why sample a bass drop when it won't always be in key? Surely synthesis is a much better and more flexible option?

Well that's the point, no one who uses proper terms will know in alot of cases. Only the group of people within this genre that uses them will know what they are.
Your right though it dosn't matter what you call it, that wasn't my point really. My point was that people are getting badly educated by not even knowing the proper term when they need to (and it's basic stuff).

agreed!

But then again, I do come across the odd person who calls them VEC distorted kicks, 'dengs' which makes for a good chuckle.
