The genre has been around for a while, and there are obviously many very established producers out there. A lot of people in newer, more mainstream genres seem to be gaining fame quicker, going from bedroom producers to selling out big shows in a few years or less.
So my question to you is, is it worth it to put in the effort to attempt to make even a little bit of a name for yourself in hardcore these days. Not to get famous like Dougal & Gammer, or make a bunch of money, but just to go beyond regional DJ and get some tracks released on established labels, etc.
tl;dr is it worth putting in the time and effort if you're not a sub-middleaged european bloke who's been doing it for a decade

If you enjoy doing it and aren't motivated by money or popularity then you have nothing to lose really. If people like your music then it doesn't matter how old you are, they will listen to it.

Hey, look at Adrenalize - kid is 16 or 17 now and has gotten huge in the Hardstyle scene, thanks to Headhunterz who took him on about year ago, with releases on big labels and plays on big events. It's never too late!

If you're going just for the fame and the money and not for the passion, you won't succeed even in an estabilished scene like EDM. You would get bored (coming from the first disappointment for not being considered) and leave even before you start to get your first following.

It's worth it if you're enjoying what you're doing, everything else shouldn't really matter.

If you enjoy mixing in your room as much as you do to a crowd then keep going.

Yea as an American UK hardcore dj you've gotta be doing it more for fun than monetary gain. You already have the small size of the UK hardcore scene in the US against you, but you've also got the general American rave scene against you as well. It's full of cheap fuckers that complain about a $20 entrance fee, and most, if not all, American UK hardcore djs have to supplement their income doing something else other than DJing and producing. So if you're doing it as a hobby, then go for it. Name recognition should be the least of your worries if you're out there having fun.
But if you're trying to make a career out of just DJing and producing alone, then it's not even worth trying.

wouldn't that be an example of the opposite? too much recognition too soon?

Definitely not too late. Olly P is getting tons of attention from HU and D7, Rhythmics is working with Gammer and On FW, etc.
The thing is it takes a lot of time. Lots of time to get those close connections, and even longer for you to get good enough for them to even talk to you in the first place.
Is it worth the effort if your biggest dream is to see your name on a HU album? Definitely. Is it worth the effort if you just wanna be famous? Not so much. Other posters are right, if all that work wasn't fun and was instead a chore, nobody would do it. Most of us small fish do producing as a hobby, and any recognition or fame or signage is just a side effect of that, although a great one.

I'm willing to put in the effort. I think that was mainly my question, was to see if newer names are making their impact these days.
I heard a great line in some rap song earlier today: "If I was in it for the money I woulda been a lawyer"
whoever said that is probably rich as **** anyways, but I emulate his point all the same.
