remember when visors and jnkos and an old beaten pair of skate shoes. you and your friends would don your favorite mario or anime themed shirts. To a time when the phrase P.L.U.R meant something. when DJs were acctually using vinyl not a giant toy made for your ipod.

now it's this underaged slutty girls with fuzzy boots and douche bag college drunks yelling "hey bro were's the molly water?" were the slogan is now Sex Money and Dubstep. basically it's what lil'wayne did to the early 90's rap/hip-hop scene. so feel free to say what ever but in my house we dis the neon leggings and don are home made kandi and let are feet kick freely in our phat pants! so hell to the bass drops and drunk college frat members. back to were social outcasts could come together and be them selves. so far i have to thank the following for keeping the 90's alive: DJ Lawlzy,DJ EAR,Anwar Louis,Renard Queenston, and the oddball wonders of the furry community(they dig old skool)

Well...as the old skoolers in my scene told me when I first started raving in 2005..."You're late." I miss seeing people dressed as Rainbow Brite, Care Bear overalls, Tons and Tons of candy up the arms and around the neck, and the PLUR attitudes. That's just how it is now unless you find a decent scene that still sports Happy Hardcore on a regular basis.

Can't really relate to any of that, scene has been very different over here I guess.

nothing wrong with slutty girls, although they have to be over age !

I prefer the music now , not that I was raving back then but i do still enjoy Happy Hardcore

I prefer the production used now , and the futuristic freeform that comes from it

^ I wonder if it's a coincidence that the decline of kandi culture in the US and rise of dance music are linked?
Just curious if mainstream media over there wouldn't take dance music seriously in part because of.....
rainbow brite?

Just a thought!

I mean we never had kandi culture over here and dance music in the UK in the early 90s was at the point that it's only just made it to now in the US.

hmmm,
To be fair I think it's probably just the influx of new faces to the US dance scene that have been readily converted by Dubstep and "DJ and friends" remixes in the charts that's pushed kandi 'underground' there.

speculation though, I don't live there anymore so I'm just throwing guesses from afar!

I think you're right. Hard 4/4 and cheese just isn't the preferred sound anymore. Commercialism has spread and everything in American pop culture is about following the bandwagon. The thing is, there are people who still dress candy, but I've noticed the gap widen between party goers in candy with "traditional" candy attitudes without drugs, and party goers in candy with no candy kid attitudes and loaded with drugs, or only doing it for the fashion.

consider yourselves lucky lol.

I never pegged myself as a kandi kid back in the 90s even though I did wear baggy pants and some of those bracelets, I always found the attire very superficial, and it's even more-so today.

Wish we were more focused on the music since the beginning rather than the insignificant details that would peg us as ravers.
