Its almost that time of year again! It wont be long till I kick off an official preparations thread for the next installment of our free members album 'The Past. The Present. The Future. 2015'.
I'm extremely proud of how last years album turned out & the overall popularity through downloads was immense. I really tried to repay everyones faith in the idea by ensuring your music was represented professionally & I feel we ended up with a real memorable addition to the series, something you guys could be proud of being part of. At the end of the day, the project is all about bringing the members together & giving you all something to work towards & learn from.
By starting this brainstorming thread I thought we could all come together & pitch some ideas/visions that you guys may have for next years album. A point I really want to address is the idea of getting those who dont produce involved also. What can we do to make this possible?
I also had the idea of incorporating & progressing the remix competition by letting you guys vote on what past tracks you'd like to see remixed, then out of the artists that put their names forward (depending of numbers), each track will be assigned a couple of producers , each submitting their own remix with the eventual winner being decided through a members vote.
Maybe you guys would rather get involved in another remix comp like we had last year, all offering your own unique mixes of a selected previous PPF track with the top 3 appearing on the album?
Possibly skip a remix comp altogether & get down to business?
There's also the possibility of making every track submission public & collectively deciding/voting on what tracks we think should make the album, that way even the members that don't produce can get involved, playing a part in building the album.
- Album format/layout?
- Possible hh.com DJs you'd like to see featured this time round?
- Number of DJs? (I'll be stepping aside this year to give another dj the opportunity to showcase the tracks :) )
- What worked last year?
- What didn't work for you?
Anything, anything at all. If you have some ideas or even some constructive criticism on last years album then be sure to let us know.
Thanks again for your support :)
For anyone who doesn't know what the PPF project is, its a completely free mixed/unmixed, downloadable Hardcore album created by the producers/members of the site. If your interested in getting involved then keep an eye out for the official preparations thread coming in December where I'll go into much greater detail.
If somehow you managed to miss the last album be sure to grab it here -

Maybe get Silver to get involved if he wishes, this is his site and the idea came from this site so might be nice to see him involved ion something again as it must have been 10 years since his last compilation came out which I think it was called Hardcore Tunes 3?
A vote might be a good idea as well, maybe allow people to vote for a maximum of 3 tunes?

Thanks for the input smoogie :)
I remember Silver being a bit busy when I put the idea to him last year, which is completely understandable. Maybe we can twist his arm this year ;)
If we could come up with a voting system that would work it would be great. I really want to ensure that everyone can have an input in the next album if they choose to get involved :)

I hit you up last year about mixing it but you had it sorted already.
I'd be happy to provide my services this year

Thanks again for your interest man. How about if I hold a voting stage where the members could decide which DJ/s would appear on the album?
It seems like a fair way to go about it, & again gets more people involved :)

Cover art design. A few of us know our way round Photoshop so that could be an idea for non producers to get involved. We all get to vote for the best one of the lot.

I am sure he wouldn't mind being inboxed 20 times a day lol
There are a few other people on the forums who became successful, maybe ask them if they want to be involved with the mixing as it could help them personally as well as the album

Member input in areas other than the tune production is definitely something I'd have suggested.

Definitely. Do you think having a standalone DJ handling the mix each year is better? Possibly a b2b?
I suppose the number of djs/mixes depends on the number of tracks submitted but a b2b or single dj on the one mix is always possible.

As good an idea as that is, if Ollys still game, I'd much rather keep the new found album identity intact. I feel the guy made an excellent job of the artwork last year & I dont really think it'll need too much altering to be honest.
I'd like to keep a recognisable image for the series & build on it.

I know the feeling!
Being so close to officially kicking things off, if we were to hold some type of remix comp it would have to count towards a large part of the album. Having everyone give so much time to remixes it may take something away from the effort put into producing original tracks.
Which brings me to a possible idea....

Keeping the remix comp idea in mind, could we have a 'PPF The Remix' edition? Building the album entirely of brand new remixes from past volumes.
Anyone willing to remix would put their name forward, remix packs for past tracks made exclusively available to 2-3 people (depending on numbers), the winning remixes would be decided by a round of votes.

Agreed. I want to open up this years album & ensure every member has some type of input in the outcome.
Do you have any ideas as to how we could get people involved apart from producing, mixing & designing Dean?
I thought combining the remix comp with the album itself would be a great way to let everyone have their say on exactly how the albums turns out.
I'm really just putting ideas out there to see what people think...
