i thought of this a few weeks ago, weirdly at about 3am when I woke up for absolutely no reason at all, it just came to me, and seeing jays rave idea thread has reminded me to share it.
Basically, a line up is already picked and decided, for arguments sake let's say 10 DJs and 10 MCs, but the pairing up on the sets and the set time are done FA cup draw style, the DJs and MCs have their names in their respective 'hats' if you like, regardless of whether they are headliners, up and comers or somewhere in between, all in together, and who's with who on set is picked out at random, first DJ and first MC will be drawn, that's your first pairing, and that would be the first set, 2nd DJ and 2nd MC out are the 2nd set, etc etc, all parties would have to be up for the idea beforehand obviously, you could also video and upload the draw so people can see it's truly random if that would make it more fun, but I reckon you could get some interesting new pairings doing it this way, plus a newcomer DJ or MC would get the chance to work with one of the top boys, which would be a good experience in regard to fun and also from a learning perspective as well.
You could even go further into it if there were to be many back to back sets, do your initial draw and then your pairings are assigned say a number and then pulled at random to give you your b2b pairings as well.
Not really sure if it would work, or even if it's been done in the past, I reckon it could potentially be a good idea.
Anyone got any thoughts on it?

This wouldn't be a bad thing to do, and it would work if the majority of the MCs weren't some of the most stupid and beyond ignorant people in the scene. There's a reason why MCs have their favorite DJs to MC over and that's because they can predict their tracklist. They favor the majority of the tracks their preferred DJs play at events.
For this to really work well, you'll have to do the draw days if not at least a week in advance so the DJs and MCs can communicate with each other on what will be played. And the MCs will really have to dedicate some time and effort into getting familiar with the tracks that the DJs chosen for them play. Heaven forbid if MC Storm is paired up with Fracus & Darwin, or maybe freeform DJs like A.B and Thumpa and he thinks that winging it will be no problem.
Let's just not have another incident like when MC Static had to do a set with Sharkey. Static came on FB and apologized that he wasn't familiar with the set Sharkey was playing, and apparently people who were there commented on how much of a dick Sharkey was being to Static and messing around with the MC volume controls.

Be interesting to see the likes of Vibes back to back with Neophyte or something.
It would have to be a wide range of DJs though, not just the regular big names. I mean it wouldn't be that out of the ordinary to see something like Hixxy B2b Joey Riot or something. It would probably just be like watching a load of the usual lot doing a 30 minute set each.
Something I've always liked the idea of is a bunch of DJs doing a massive back to back set, taking turns playing a couple of tracks in rotation. Maybe chuck in a drum and bass DJ as a wildcard.
So you could have, say, Styles b2b Vinylgroover b2b The Producer b2b DJ Hype b2b Shimamura b2b Thumpa b2b Fracus b2b Luna-C b2b Gammer b2b Al Storm b2b JD-Kid b2b Vibes, spread across 4 or 5 hours.
