I sometimes have to resort to using tempo and beat syncing due to latency issues while using a midi interface. If you have the time you can compensate a lot (with loops or good starting points), but if you are mixing a lot of different tracks fast it can become too messy and hectic. Also very handy if you get really drunk but still care a little about the mixing. :)

can`t blame latency, unless you have done a thousand things before you started having a mix, if you system is all hogged up then the latency can change everytime you press play
if you mix straight after a boot/restart, the latency normally stay the same for hours, which is no worse when vinyl pickup times, which only sounds worse if you forget to turn the bass down on the track your just about to mix

I'm not sure the sync button would really have any impact on modern mixing. I know the speeds of all my tracks and getting them in time takes a second or two.

word, you can overclock your usb port too and set the polling rate to 1000hz which gives 1ms latency on a single port pci-e card
if you use your motherboard ports, you best off overclocking each port or you`ll have 7x125hz + 1x1000hz
so on a bad day, host controller will cycle through, checking keyboard, mouse, printer, etc, so latency can be atleast 4x8ms on 125hz which is 32ms, only get a random 1ms on your 1000hz usb port
overclock your mouse, and move your mouse to another port, and the overclock should remain until you re-install windows

as someone who has been dj'ing for 25 years i hate that button. when a pilot flicks the auto pilot button, is he flying the plane? no he isn't, a computer is. dj'ing is an art form and using a button to do the main job for you is cheating IMHO. if you cannot manually beat match you're not a dj. why not just press shuffle on the ipod and be done with it?

I'll just stick to manual vinyl mixing. When I was around 14, I received my first set of decks, and I've practised the Art of DJing ever since ( I'm now 27). Nothing beat the feeling when you had to learn it for yourself, and you first got a beat match right, you felt like it was all your own work, and not some software designed for Pub DJs. The more you practised the art the more you could try different and more tricky things, getting creative and trying for more difficult drops/awkward beats, better sense of rhythm ( being that I have Aspergers syndrome, ive always had a natural good sense of rhythm) and more obviously faster more demanding mixing. When I use CDJs I still beat match the same way I do with vinyl, play a track, play by ear, adjust the pitch control slightly, maybe a tap with my finger on the platter/jog wheel, back to the beginning of the track and repeat. The sync button becomes redundant, alone, unused, and unloved.

Good thing you got it all figured out. But if you don't just mix in your bedroom and interact with other people there are times when the button is helpful.

not really, everyone spent the 90`s and 2000s getting bonged up, and having sessions while mixing vinyl all night with ease
