First off if your buying it to make tunes on get a desktop computer!

As much RAM as pos, at least 1gb I'd say.

You will need a lot of storage space for full quality audio files and all your plugin etc.

A decent processor will certainly help... As fast as you can afford really.

Don't get a tiny monitor as you need to fit alot of infomation on the screen at once.

Basically you can do it on any computer but you (and your music) will suffer if you don't get a good, fast computer.

You'll also need a decent soundcard (I've got an echo mia but there are plenty others out there) a midi keyboard and some studio monitor speakers. These are just the bare essentials too!

It's not going to be cheap in other words :p If you need to save money where you can don't get a flash graphics card for starters... Can't think of any other way to make it cheap though.

lol hardware... hardware is shit expensive, just buy reason, its synths and drum machines / effects, imitate hardware, its incredibly similer.. you can even mess with the cables behind the 'soft' hardware.. and its much cheaper.

Id say its better to get 2 monitors, these days you can get 2 19" tft monitors with the same price as 22" costs.

Completely agree with this. I only have 1 monitor atm, and it's REALLY annoying to try to fit all windows in there.

Id go 2 monitotrs all the way on this one (depending on how hardcore youll be producing). I think this was a little broad what exactly will you be recording with your new comp? Live stuff like guitar? or just synths? If youll just be tracking from your decks any audio interface will do, latency wont matter in this case. If yhull just doing some minor producing like fruity loops your stock soundcard might be cool. if youll be using a synth for that just get like a 2 in or or something. SWEET!
I hope that made sense. I proably shouldnt drink and surf the forums, haha

If your going hardcore Bulb G is right ALL THE WAY. You can NEVER have enough processing. youll always hit that wall sooner or later!

Microdirect were doing a deal not too long ago where you got 2 20" widescreen monitors for £115 each (you had to pay full proce, but claim £100 cash back). Theres lots of good deals like this knocking around.

Yes if you can afford it 2 monitors all the way :).

I still need to get a second monitor... I went for the proper monitor speakers first as they are far more important.

Will probably be getting mine in the next month or two :).
