At the very least you will need a copy of either FL Studio, Cubase, Reason, Logic etc. Really you want to look at getting a midi keyboard, new sound card and some reasonable studio monitors as well though. If you use FL Studio you will need to get some decent soft synths as the ones that come with it are pretty crap and not really up to the task IMO.

Most importantly you will need a shite load of spare time... It's allot harder than you might think.

Yeah, I think the spare time part is the most important. I'd prolly just start with software and and see how you go. Cause there's no point shelling out heaps of cash for gear if you decide 6 months later it's not your thing. Good luck

Learn to play keyboard and go in with that. It will be very beneficial considering A. you will be using synthesisers and B. you will need to learn music theory (chords etc).

If your lucky enough to be able to go to college you should do so.

Its very odd because i can quite happily sit here for an hours making really hard and distored kicks. Anything else atm I find tedious.

Heh, weird. I guess I'm kind of the same when I'm starting out on something but it soon gets more interesting when you actually get something down that's starting to take shape... I find it does anyway. Forget about the fine detail for a bit (you can come back to that later) and just try throwing something together. Works for me if I'm getting bored spending ages just trying to get the percussion or a certain sound right.

Can't understand why your happy to work on distorted kicks for so long and not anything else though...

I know its most odd. I think part of it is that I know I wont be happy with what I do.

Yeah... I think you've just got to press on and accomplish what you can really. I really struggle to make what I want to but I keep trying to make tracks anyway. You learn a bit more each time and get that little bit nearer to having the knowledge to produce exactly what's in your head.

It is hard though... When you listen to what your doing and compare it to something you'd like to be able to do and it sounds shite. Or when you spend absolutely ages trying to get something to sound right and just cannot get it. Just got to keep going though.

I'm the same, I wish I had more time (and more ability) to carry on making tracks and learning. Maybe one day I'll start again and churn out somthing half decent.

well software wise, fl studio is a good option, it has extremely good audio editing capapbilities, although, shitty samples, sytrus can work amazingly well if you know how to use it... reason is another great software, maybe might take you a bit to learn, i probably suggest starting with reason, then you will have a more extensive knowledge of the different instances of a synth which can be changed / altered... im not really much of a freeform artist, i just do hardcore, i think with freeform youd need to use a filter more.

hope that helps!

I was reading over what you 2 were saying & I was just gonnay say that me & my brother got Reason over a year ago, we've made sum good tracks but I always try & keep it simple before you get lost in your track & find it hard to make changes. I usually make really old sounding tunez & try & re-create the old Bonkers sound and even old breakbeat styles but find it hard to take the tune into the Nu Sound! Is Reason a good package for Nu Hardcore Production? Cheers Narcotik

yeah, because the synths are very extensive, but it wont be easy to filter etc with reason as it is with fl
