Yay :)
Finally got some CD decks. Bought them off our local equivalent of Ebay.
2x CDJ800 MK1
ODYSSEY ROADCASE
And.. a free PS2 slimline console...
All for NZ $1200 ... which equates to $933 USD or 457 GBP
The decks are apparently in excellent condition
Now all I need is a mixer...

wow...that's barely over the price of a single cdj800!
amazing deal you got there i need to pick up a cdj for myself, though i think i'll go for a second hand cdj100, it's more of my price range.

I'm relatively new to DJing, however I would like a mixer which I can scratch with occasionally.
At this stage I don't want to spend more than about $450 NZ (340 USD) on a mixer, but I'm happy to go either second hand or new.
Which would be a better choice for my requirements - the Pioneer DJM-300S or a Numark DM1050? Can you guys suggest any other mixers in this price range which might suit my needs better? How important is adjustable xfader slope and curve for scratching? Most of time I will be doing just straight mixing, however I would like to incorporate some scratches into my sets.
Cheers
Eddie Would

I love my Urei 1601 :) as long as you don't mind having no EQ kills, it's an amazing mixer, and you can most likely find one in your price range. It's a bit larger than other two channel mixers, but like I said before, is quite nice!

seconded. I've just bought a Urei 1601E and couldn't be happier with it. Highly recommended!
The sound quality is the best I've heard out of any mixer I've ever used! Everything is solid, the faders are smooth, the adjustable x-fader is spot on, the EQ's kill the sound completely when all turned right down (as it should be!), the EQ for the headphones could be very handy for bad monitoring situations, the effects unit is decent (for an on-board effects unit) and all the other functions that I can't be arsed to list work great.
There is only two things wrong with it IMO, neither cause me a problem though.
1. No power switch. This isn't a problem for me as I have a power strip with individual switches for each socket. Why it doesn't have one though... :S
2. No record output. We have a separate mixer for using at parties so this doesn't cause me a problem either. It does still have two outputs so if it's only being used at home you will still be able to record off one and hook an amp to another. You could still use it at a party and just run multiple amps out of a separate mixing desk (providing you have one) but then you would have no control over monitor volume when behind the decks (unless the mixing desk was to hand). If your party was of any reasonable size you would be using a mixing desk anyway so... Also, this is only a problem if yoy want to record at the party. Again, can't see why they didn't include one!
I see on some reviews that some people moan about there being no click on 0db for the gains and EQ's but I haven't found this a problem at all.
You should buy one, they can be picked up for a hell of a lot less than they're worth! Much better than a Vestax mixer IMO.
Looks nice as well :)

Yay my decks finally arrived today! been having so much fun already!!!
But it's not quite the same without a mixer :(
There's a DJM-400 going quite cheap on our local equivilent of Ebay which closes on Tuesday so I'll wait for that and if it's too expensive, I'll just buy the Vestax VMC-002XL new.
Still would be cool to have the DJM400 coz the CDJ800s are somewhat lacking in effects :(
