Basically iv been trying to learn music production for about a month now (i think its a month my memory gets worse every day) and iv have been buying a few cd's packed full of vst's and getting advice off here but am finding most of the vsts on the discs are not what i want so i was thinking maybe we could start a thread as a guide to anyone producing of the top vst's around - your faves and the ones you find work best for you. it would be great to save me and others the time spent searching through some of the crappers ones to find the gems and to get a bit of a head start if you know what i mean.
ill split it into what i think are good catagories to start but help me out coz im not the best at this sort of thing.

so here was the catagories i was thinking of but there are obviously more and they could be divided up so help add to it and lets see if we can get some sort of compendium/directory of top plugins:

synthesisers

instruments

effects

add your fave vst with a little description of what it does and what its like, and if its free where you can get it.

if you think this is a good idea then please add something coz i know id find it really helpfull at least. if you think its a bad idea call me horrible names and cast me out of your community...

A VST instrument that I use time and time again is Adventus from Softplug. I combine the Adventus with CamelSpace, an effect from Camel Audio, to get a KINDA gated effect.

A good starting point for finding new VSTs is browsing the database at:

A few that I use a lot are:-

Sylenth 1
V Station - Synths
Blue

Shortcircuit 2 - Sampler

Camel Chrusher - Use this mainly for distortion and filtering odd things.

I also use a load of things for reverb, EQ etc. but can't really remember what they are off the top of my head. :P Will check if I remember.

I'm going to pick up Nexus soon too as that's supposed to be amazing.
