Ok, i have a shity laptop from 2000ish and i wanna upgrade to a new one, and downgrade it to XP (have a spare XP disk!! YAY!) all i need are some good laptops PREMADES, i don't like going custom. i already have a 320GB external hard drive (its huge!) and i need it to hold music, hold mixes, and make mixes with. any good laptops with a resonable price?

oh, and is Dell a ok company to go with?

im one of those people that doesn't have a lot of money to play with. not really sure what your situation is... these types of things as they get outdated as soon as you get them so what i did was buy a shitty cheap-o laptop. it came with XP, so i can't say a lot about downgrading either.

so i just bought some extra ram and an external soundcard and spent the money i saved (from not buying a mac book) on other stuff.

other than the ram and soundcard i really don't now what else you need as far as making music.
(dunno if any of that helps but its something to consider. will you really use any/all of the stuff that a 1500$ laptop comes with? it's was a no for me)

i've heard mixed things about dell. if you want my 2 cents again, i have a toshiba one and have had NO problems with it in two years. it also had everything i needed at the time, firewire, s-video... didn't leave much to be desired except for the above that i bought extra.

do what you can afford i guess.

I'll second the Toshiba vote - I love mine!

I used to have an Advent - avoid them like the plague, it fell apart on my quite literally! Shoddy build quality.

Do consider an external soundcard though, well worth it!
