Hey im brand new to the production scene, i have fruity loops 8, and thats it, i was wondering if you could give me some tips and advise on how to get started, and what sample packs ect i should use.

they all do diffrent things. Some will be synth's some make basslines. other are samplers just get loads of free ones and see what you think. try diffrent things out.

IMO if you want good piano sounds, buy Nexus and then buy the Piano Expansion, a very very good selection of quality piano samples..

Theres no real way we can possibly tell you to get started... Just look at it and get used to how things work, theres also tutorials but i didn't even bother looking at them when i was teaching myself.

VST wise,
Nexus
Z3ta
Vanguard
Powercore
Novation V-Station etc. etc.

You can't really ever use one thing on it's own, you'll have to learn how to layer effectively etc.
