I've noticed that my Turntable platter dips slightly on one side, is this normal?

When I say dip, you only notice it when its spining. So it'll drop about 1-2mm and then come back up when the dip ends.

I have a Stanton STR8-150, wondering if I need to send this back and get a replacement...

That's definitely not good. Send them back. You should ask for a refund and get some 1210's while ya at it. :P

probably just warped
you can true a platter yourself on a tech12

but yeah, if it's new, return the str8-150 and buy technics 1200s...they're around the same price and much better

Are you doing it with the slipmat on? Take it off and see if it does it, might be your slipmat is not 100% flat.

possibly. Seems a little better now I've taken the headshell weight off and taken some tracking force off (too much cause it to bounce??)

Either way the Stanton manual is absolute w*nk.. Tells you nothing what-so-ever.

Leveled, the desk, tightened the height plate (was bit lose for some reason...) same with the top screw on the tonearm swivel, it seems to be getting better.

I also (like silver said) checked the slipmat and that was quite uneven, but not noticable on first glance, but yet, it was causing my vinyl to go up and down a fair bit, lol.

Generally I'm starting to think its just me.. Might just be that I'm too heavy handed.

Either way thanks for the replies that didn't insist I buy Technics 1210s. If I wanted 1210s I would have bought them and they're like an extra £100 for a nametag if you ask me. :) (Personal opinion, don't make a dispute out of this...)

If it's new I would take it back and get a new one... do you have two? Are they both doing it?

well, considering it has about double the resale value and 30 times the lifespan it's hardly a nametag

Thats for all the responses, seems muuuuch better now.. didn't realise how much of a difference 'wearing the needle in' actually does.. Didn't realise they were really stiff when new and need to sit on a record for ages...

I R TEH N00B. :/
