how long is your off-beat bass?
I used to make it 1/8 in all my tracks, but I have found that 1/16 its more energetic and bouncy, 3/32 sound good too, not to short, not to long

hmmmm. What is 1/8? Im not bright when it comes to technical things with production.
On FL, 1 bar is split into 4 bars, which each have 4 squares in, like [][][][]`[][][][]`[][][][]`[][][][] Would be 1 bar. My kick takes up the first [][] of each set of 4 (4 kicks to 1 bar) my bass does the same but on 3 and 4, thus taking up the second 2 squares in each quarter bar [][]
Does that make sense? How long is that?

each [] you say, would be a 1/16 ... in other words one whole bar divided in 16 parts
that means that if you use 2 [] to your bass, then it is 1/8 (1/16 x 2)

Depends on the kick/temp/style. If i wanted a bouncy tune i'd make it shorter than normal for example.

I usually use 1/16, or one step or [] and sometimes 3/32 or one and a half step or [][ ^^

1/8 usually for me. I tend to quantize the lengths when I'm preparing for the mixdown.
sometimes though, for leads and pianos, I'll leave the notes as they were input since I usually input from a midi keyboard. I find that this often adds character to the lines.

always 1/8.. well.. sorta.. kick should always be 1/8 so the low end doesnt clash with the bass, unless you're side chaining or something..
but if you're going for a more bouncy tune, then make both slightly shorter, or maybe just the bass, depends..
