I'm one with Fruity Atm.
Tried learning Reason, but it's so different I find I dont have the time. I also find fruity more fun.

Cubase 5 is the newest. I think you must be talking about Cubase VST 5, that's an old version of Cubase.

Hi 5. :D

Just wondering now if DAWs are some what exclusive to certain genres of music. Ive heard of quite a few Dubstep producers using Fruity, Logic and Reason i think, but never Cubase. And kind of vice versa ive heard a few Hardcore producers using Cubase but not heard of many (if any at all) using Logic.

Or is there kind of snobbery within other genres, thinking that Logic or Fruity is what we should use as all the cool people use it and youre not cool unless you do?

You generally tend to use what the people / studios you collaborate with use. There are several great DAWs on the market and you can easily pick 10 or so hosts that let you produce hardcore with ease and quality, but it's a big plus if you can directly exchange project files.

No I don't think so. Quite a few people in Hardcore use Logic I think. Sharkey & Synthwulf to name a couple off the top of my head. I also know a fair few people making Dubstep with Cubase.

I would say Cubase is rated as one of the top DAW's by the majority of dance music producers really. Alongside Logic. The tool favoured by people mixing non-dance music seems to be Pro Tools.

Anyone who gets too snobby about DAWs is a bit of a cock though as it's the music that matters. :) I've heard amazing tracks out of Sonar, FL, Reason and more recently Ableton.

FL 8, 9 soon & I haven't paid for a DAW since FL4! Can't see Cubase or Logic being that generous any time soon.
