Alot of people, me included, have problems producing gabber. No matter how much we try, the dutch do it best.....So i thought Id do a thread for people to post their tips on gabba.

Im listening to Catscan - The Agency and heres what I notice:

- Low synths, do make it sound dark and not happy.
- There is NO off beat bass like in UK hardcore, its just thump, thump, thump etc, the distortion on the thumps and the synth seem to take up the blank space where the bass would be. This makes it sound harder to.
- All the percussion seems to be with the kick. Is the bass on the kick to?
- I cant hear pads on the main synthline

What else is there?

both things that i noticed too earlier, it just seems to be a really ferocious & distorted kick & the distortion seems to drive through the off beat too.

f*ck knows.

Rap samples lol.

The kick in Gabber seems to act as the bass too. The kicks are done using synths so you could play them in piano roll to go along with chord progression in the song, although that's more a Jumpstyle thing i think.

The cheesier Gabber eg Evil Activities - Hidden Place, seems to have pads or strings but the darker, more pounding stuff doesnt.
