Oxygen 25 £55

Oxygen 49 £80

£25 difference for double the octaves and double the fun and practicality (unless youre pushed for space)

But as Trubass said, save your money. Buy monitors or a better soundcard before a midi keyboard

If you learn to play the keys (keyboard/piano) when you get the midi keyboard, then that is far more valuable than a good sound card and and monitors; neither of those help you make good music.

If I'm right it's his mum who will buy it. And he didn't say he had the choice between a keyboard, or the price of one, so what's better, a keyboard or nothing ?

Good point, but equally if you get a MIDI keyboard with no knowledge of music theory or abilty to play then that wont help you make good music. I meant you can always draw in the notes in piano roll as appose to playing a midi keyboard so its not really neccessary. Where as if you want to make quality (production-wise at least) monitors are pretty useful.

His mum will be buying it yeah, but he could always adk for the money? Have her keep the money and him put more towards it to buy something else. Chances are he asked his mum to get him one or something along those lines, i doubt she would have come and said "oi youre having a midi keyboard and thats final!"

So you did :)

But im sure it'll take a while to learn enough music theory to be able to string a song together on a keyboard. Whereas getting a good soundcard/monitors = better sound quality instantly and you can learn music theory as you go along whilst also making surte your tracks are of good production quality. Saying that though, ive just bought a £160 Axiom 49 having never played a keyboard (except a few notes in music lessons at school the rest of the time was spent making fun of the silly Italian words being spoken by our teacher in a Yorkshire accent) and knowing bugger all music theory (well a few guitar bits and bobs)

Im not sure what my point is anymore, kind of trailed off topic....
