Its all about how you want to do it. I suggest you watch videos of DJ Cotts if you dont know how, because thats how I got started, and it REALLY helped me out. Go on youtube and search him up.

Basically it's as you said, intro-outro mixing.
You can aswell mix the intro in the mainpart.

However you want to. Be original and not a youtube clone.

depends on what type of tunes you're playing imo
most of the early to mid 90s stuff you could mix in and out of in just a few bars anywhere because that's how it was produced.
a good portion of the stuff now is more song like and requires you to wait till the end of the track to begin mixing so the synths don't clash terribly.
if things start to clash when mixing that's when you need to cut the levels. if the kick drums phase each other out lower the volume on one of them. if a synth is clashing cut the mids and/or highs.
most important thing to learn first is beat matching. from there watch and/or listen to djs you like and knowtice how they transition between tracks then try to emulate it yourself.

thanks for all the replys!
well yeah, dj cotts is really good but i can't see what he does with the high mid and bass lol
i can beatmatch fairly well, but my transitions always suck or are too long
another question, how can you fit MORE songs into a mix? like 10 tunes in 20 min etcetc

if the second tune has an simple intro on it you can usually mix those over anything and cut the first song when the second song's intro stops.
or if the first tune has a build up around midway through the song simple enough to layer another tune in it.
it's much more fun imo to mix older hardcore as I can easily go through 4 to 5 tunes in 10 minutes and the uneducated raver thinks it's all one song =P
