i thought him ( mostly modulate though) used to make some really great UK hardcore before the whole electro/dubcore thing. songs like can you feel it by modulate; think yr alright; do you feel it ; can you by both, etc.

that track is honestly not even that bad if you dont expect it to sound like hardcore. it seems that every time i see the majority of people here complaining about a track it is simply because it doesnt sound like mainstream hardcore music or because it has really different elements from the average hc track. i try to never go into a song with the concept of a genre in my head, its just music. and that song was just fun music (it wasnt great, it was just enjoyable) :L it just sounded like a fast electro-y house beat, and i dont think that putting a "hardcore" label on something that doesnt sound 100% like hardcore (it still has the essential elements of a hardcore track) is that big of a problem. i am not claiming that specifically you criticized it for not sounding like hardcore, but when i lurked this place i always saw people give bad feedback on something simply because it didnt sound like the hardcore they knew, and your post reminded me of it
i tried my best to make that not sound like "your opinion is bad"
also that being said, i dont really care for petruccio immensely although some of his older-ish tracks are ok

Not one to normally negatively comment on a song... But what the hell was that? ._. It sounded like someone just discovered FL and put the FL kick with default synth preset on the offbeat for four minutes

Fair reply. But whatever I would go in expecting that track to sound like, it was like someone opened an old project file and half the original synths or samples were deleted. An incomplete experiment. Maybe it's my laptop making it sound crapper then it really does, and it certainly wouldn't fit into any mixes of mine. In fact an hour mix of tunes like this would be enough to make anyone pack their bags.
The track is called "Got 2 B Joking" though...
I wonder if he'll try something like drum & bass, or a slightly different type of hardcore. Maybe freeform or gabber?

would be nice to see him try a different genre. i honestly think he has some talent in him but his more recent results have been somewhat bland. refreshing his library of samples and presets with another style would be healthy

I agree with that, he obviously knows his way around his DAWs and synths and that - if he wants to make minimalist music fair enough, that's his prerogative, I just don't feel it translates very well to hardcore. There's plenty of room for creativity and experimentalism if he wants to make music this speed. If he doesn't, then again - fair enough, but was he making this music really for himself or for the fans?
As I often say in these situations, he might have been better bowing out quietly and, perhaps, making the odd hardcore track or remix here and there. A rest is as good as a change.

I really wonder what some of you expect to be hardcore. It seems to me that there is a group there that is living on its lonely island (literally an musically) and refuse to accept anything that moves a little away from the sound they fell in love with when entering the scene.
Petruccio didn't do the mainstream uk hardcore sound, so if you are about arguing what is true hardcore and what not he is going to be a problem. There where weak/bad tracks, but every artist has them.
I always liked him for producing the less harmony/melody and more effect driven sound (like Arnej in trance - maybe not the best comparison but maybe you get where i'm pointing) which is a great addition to whats already there.
My favorite track is probably this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSLFr_iFP9w

******** it's an awful track whether people expect it to sound like a UK hardcore track or not. It's clearly supposed to be along the lines of tracks like Manjari, Pure Fish, Bang Yer Head Off, Breakneck Bastard, and others like it. Most of those with the exception of Bang Yer Head Off, I actually like. But this shit track was just so damn lazily put together. For someone who has been producing for years and been in the group of mainstream producers it's an embarrassment to what he's accomplished, especially since that track was done just a year ago.

as far as i am concerned quality is not necessarily proportional to effort

You are literally putting words in our mouth. Nobody here said ANYTHING about 'real hardcore'. You have made that up. We just said we didn't like it.

nah, people here are not complaining about the song because it doesnt sound like hardcore, they simply dont like it :p but i will say that it seems the community here does tend to immediately reject new stuff

another bullshit statement. Just because we don't like a track because it sounds awful doesn't mean we don't like "new" things. And there's absolutely nothing "new" about it things like that have been produced more than a year before its time.

check out feedback on releases like Breeze - Brixton from soundcloud http://i.imgur.com/mxBGQIy.png now check out the first response to the same track i found in this place http://i.imgur.com/0N4Fp0T.png the reason? it sounds like big room house unoriginal? sure, it sounds like every house release on the beaport top 100 right now, but we are not talking about house. it was one one of the few times that i heard big room elements in a hardcore track, and even though i do not like it, you cant deny that other people do (see: the soundcloud screenshot). you cant stop the genre from going wherever it is going because "muh hardcore", and this is what i keep seeing around here. elitism is stupid oh yeah also people keep complaining about preset sounding synths but i never see them complain about supersaws lmao. another example of "we dont like presets except we love presets"
