ok, so I want to start DJing
i have a few things of equipment
but i want to know what you all thought of them

2x Stanton T 80 turntables
Numark DM3002X mixer or Stanton SA-3 mixer

pretty much the most imprortant things you need
but i also know i need headphones and possibly cartidges
prettmy much i want to have a good moxer but be able to scratch also

tell me what you think!
oh and ummmm, ive heard of this software called scratchlive, what does it do exactly?

You have everything you need there, at least to start with; you can't really go wrong! Cartridges are something you need without a doubt, or you can't play any vinyls :P Other than that your sorted.

As for the software..i couldn't say!

Probably the software you're thinking of is Serato Scratch Live.

Basically instead of playing records, you play special vinyl with a time coded signal on it. The software listens to the output of your turntables and determines the position of the needle, velocity and direction of the record. It sends this information to software which plays MP3.

So you can use the turntable to control MP3s which are played back from your computer allowing you to do things like

- Drop the needle in the middle of the track
- Cue
- Scratch

etc

It's a pretty cool idea in concept, but I guess what it comes down to is how well it works. I've never seen it in action.

there is one thing u need if your mixer dosent have a amp built in like mine u will have to buy a amp and speakers

If I could make a few suggestions:
Start out as cheap as possible. You learn more slowly on crap decks, but you will want all the money you can get your hands on to buy vinyls. Once you get better, upgrade! I would recommend getting a Numark Battlepack.
If you don't mind spending the next few years of your life spending every penny you get on vinyls, then I wouldn't get into it. I don't know if it's just me, but mixing grabbed me by the horns.

yeah,i was the same.

got some belt drives called "diso 2000"

spent every penny on vinyl & one day out of the blue,im a superstar dj!!!

I would say the opposite...

If you're serious about starting, don't waste money on crap that WILL need replacing. You don't need loads of vinyl to start off with because you will not be good enough to play out for a while yet.

Don't go cheap on the decks you choose. You want those things to last awhile.

The mixer, on the other, hand can be VERY basic. You'll find that as you gain experience the mixer can be upgraded to what you like (3 channel mixers, 4 channel mixers, mixers w/ built-in FX) that sorta thing.

whatever you get enjoy the PHUCK outta them :D

Serato Scratch is amazing. A DJ friend of mine has it & hes got his CDJs hooked up to them.
With his laptop & external hard drive he can setup anywhere.

I own serato and since having it i have never played out with vinyl again!

It all depends on what your wanting, torq has built in effects which SSL doesn't have unless you own the TTM 57 SL (basically a Rane TTM 56 with serato built in / NOTE: with out any exception the 56/57 is the best battle mixer on the market)

Their is plenty of DVS systems out their, me i wanted stability over any thing else and with serato you can have your mind at rest, since i have been using it (over 18 months) i have never had any issues that was not user error! On the otehr hand i have used torq a total of 5 times, 2 of these resulted in the Blue screen of death!

Stantons attempt "traktor scratch" i have not used but after using their FS1 and FS2 i would never use any more of their products, the stability is not their, the customer service is non exsistint, they charge for updates, i could go on and on! Seriously the best advice i can give you is DO NOT BUY THIS, i am basing this on previous experience of their older products but from reading the reviews the latency and what not doesn't compare to the competitors that are out their

I could be wrong but to the best of my knowledge i have never saw any famous dj use anything other than serato, richine hawtin, dub fire (half of deep dish), jazzy jeff, PvD all use it

As for the other advice, i would strongly advise you not to buy numark, gemini, or any of the crap budget gear! Buy once and not again is my motto therefore their is only 1 option...... buy technics (for TT's) or pioneer for cdj's

If you buy serato the cost of records becomes irrelevant, i can hit up many places and get the wav of the track cheaper than most records shop charge for P&P

FYI version 1,8 is due soon that will be incorpatating midi and for those TTM 57 SL owner the possibility to mix videos (this will cost an additional $200) althought this will eventually be released for those that only have the SL1 there is no date set as yet!

what are the best techniccs to get? cos iheard technis are the best direct driven turntables.

i now use sl1200 mk 2 & a pioneer djm500 (thinking about buying a pioneer cdj1000)

i wish i had saved my money instead of buying the original belt drive set i started on.
my first go on technics was just like starting all over again (due to the high torque)

i found it very different to what i thought was the norm for all turntables.

hey tahnsk peple, im deciding to get stanton str8-150s, and the SA-3 mixer...

haha, ive been looking at tons of vinyls...i told my mom id pay for the vinyls myself..or make the maney and pay her back for them....
i think this is the only time ive been willing to work so hard for somthin
