Here is a track I have been working on with a friend.

Been producing for a couple of years and feel were finally at a standard for the public to enjoy

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mrbencow007/Audio/Third%20Demo%20Mix-01.mp3 - Attempted Home Mastering

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mrbencow007/Audio/Second%20Demo%20Mix.mp3 - Un mastered. With old bass line. (Changed in the mastered version)

Feel free to give feedback and comments

I use Cubase sx3, reason 3, Novation KS4 Synth, and VST's

For legal reasons, I shall declare that the vocal sample is from n-trance set you free, but the rest is 100% home brew original.

This track is fooking awsome!

Not heard anything like it ever. All I can say is cut out the fills at the begining that make the track seem like it's going to do somthing but doesnt.

The rest is amazing.

Impressive stuff! And, what a first post :)

It's the highest standard of production i've seen from this site so far! Well mixed down, wicked melody.
Good stuff indeed!

Running commentary. Complete honesty.

you need to fix up the structure on this a lot. The first 2 minutes is basically a lot of the same thing. The way structure is in hardcore; something changes significantly every 16 bars or so. After the first minute up til about 2:40 felt like major deja vu.

Some major EQ needs to be done too. In the breakdown it sounds like the break and the pads are running together too much. Maybe some sidechaining would help.

I didnt really feel like there was a breakdown and a build up... it just kind of felt like the track slowed then out of nowhere came the peak. Its not a bad thing a tall, its unique, but something that i dont feel a lot of people will go for. Props to you for doing something original though; if it was intentional.

The mixdown is not great. Some of the percussion is louder than the kick drum and the synth put together. That white noise whoosh started really getting on my nerves at about 3:30. Its used like every 8 bars. Thats way too much for the same sound effect, try to change the effects up a bit.

I feel like the kick drum isnt a prominent in the mix at all. At times i kind of forgot that its there, and it should be the loudest thing to the mix. Adding compression to the kickdrum alone will give it a lot more punch.

Final word on a negative thing. 9 minutes is VERY long for a hardcore track. You've repeated the main riff and essentially the same parts of the track unnecessarily in my opinion.

Now the good things.

That chord progession im loving. and also the main riff is quite nice. With polishing this track has a lot of potential. But yeah what someone said before it jsut didnt "flow" and it just didnt do it for me. It also sounded pretty muddy to me... nothing really stood out when its meant to stand out if you know what i mean.

If you want help with production my ears are always open, and anyone here will ALWAYS give you advice on what you can fix up, and just an honest opinion. My email is [email protected]

But pretty much everything i mentioned before needs to be fixed before a master. You shouldnt ever fix anything in mastering. Mastering should just be the final polish. As Impact said to me, that i now say to everybody else: You cant polish a turd. Not that this is a turd but the mix could be a lot better.

I should stop rambling now. Nice for a first track tho mate. You should have heard my first couple oft racks *rolls eyes*

I think the tune is perfectly fine, it's very good. If you think that commercialised crap is a standard to work towards then maybe it isn't as good as me and Mortis said it is, but it's not, this is much better, and the last thing that people need to do is copy every other commercialised Hardcore song out there.

So, keep up the good work!

what? Are you talking about production-wise? Or the actual theory behind the track?

Because i think in theory this track is really good it just needs polishing. But if you're saying that commercialised hardcore isnt a good comparison for your production quality then you're dreaming. Commercilised hardcore is excellently engineered. Maybes i just missed the point entirely?

Don't worry, it wasn't aimed at you specifically, or anyone. Anyway my point (though completely unobvious) was that it dons't need to be the same/as good as the all the other commercial Hardcore out there to be good. Like, small inperfections don't mean anything, and the producer himself will be aware of these things probably.
And no i didn't mean from an engineering standpoint, just a musical one :P

Massive Rezbase% overload, like the style but could do with allot more work.

I feel with this track that the arrangement needs to be worked on, going to add a break down and build up in to the melody hope fully to create a hands up in the air moment, maybe tweak some other small bits.

In terms of production I am aiming to get the mix clear end powerful enough to be play out ready for DJ's, white label standard. This is not quite the same level as for commercial release mainly due to the expensive mastering session. I don't have the power know how or time to reach such a high standards on a mix yet. Maybe in 3 years, when I have a twin quad core with full on pro tools. Well thats the dream.

Hi folks, here the latest edit of my track, added a breakdown, removed quite a lot of the unneeded repetition, and had a go at getting a better mix, I am still not 100% happy with it nearer 70% at the moment, tho I am also getting sick of hearing it! Hope the changes worthwhile and you see an overall improvement.

anyways back to the track, yes nice breaks in the intro, solid strong first drop...
liking the spacey sounding synths thoughout the track, works v well.
i might suggest making that kick a bit more deeper and stronger but it isnt an essential, just a personal view.....
urrrrmmm, i think when u bring in the break at mid tune you should build it up a bit more and make the most out of all the components youve used, i personally think that would make it a bit more intresting and engetic mid way. great piano sounds and notes and good mixout.
just generally needs a little tweak here and there as you probs already no,
great stuff keep it up bud!

:)
